What is writer’s block?
According to Google, it is the condition of being unable to think of what to write or how to proceed with writing.
Everyone writer has writer’s block once in a while. I’ve had it, you’ve had it, we’ve all had it. So how exactly can you overcome it once it comes. Here’s how:
1. Forget if people hate or like your book. Just write.
Of course, I don’t mean to ignore all forms of constructive criticism. I mean not to always be moved to accept people’s opinions. Listen to them all and then pick the one/ones you think fit your book better. After all, it’s your book.
2. Be decisive.
Plot out your story before writing or you will see yourself stuck in the middle of a climax and highly frustrated. Trust me, I know the feeling.
3. Do not try to be perfect
When writing, do not try to be perfect. Allow yourself to write badly. Remember that it is only a manuscript and a masterpiece will still bloom from that manuscript. A book is not written in an hour. Facebook was not created in a day.
4. Play around
Literally. Don’t call off a walk with a loved one or ignore an invite to a party. You never know, that could be the inspiration for your next chapter.
5. Don’t force it
Don’t deliberately do things so you will overcome writer’s block. It would only get worse and you will be frustrated. Forget about writing and just chill. Ideas come naturally. Don’t try to force them to come e.g don’t do drugs
These five tips have helped me to overcome writer’s block in the worst of times.
So tell me, how have you been able to conquer writer’s block?
